Top 10 Plays of 2012: Dallas Mavericks

The seventh top 10 list on Hoopsmith of the 2012 season, featuring the Dallas Mavericks.

10) Ian Mahinmi Slams It Down Over Gustavo Ayon

Ian Mahinmi has the wide open lane on the baseline and proceeds to throw it down on top of Gustavo Ayon of the New Orleans Hornets.

9) Vince Carter’s Two-Handed Slam

Jason Kidd makes the beautiful feed to Vince Carter who finishes off the play with a powerful two-handed slam against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Playoffs.

8) Vince Carter Posterizes Hassan Whiteside

Vince Carter makes the pretty pass to Jason Terry who completes the give-and-go with Carter.  Carter has a wide open lane and dunks it over Hassan Whiteside of the Sacramento Kings, who arrives late on the block attempt.
7) Jason Terry’s Lob for Brandan Wright’s Alley-Oop

Jason Terry makes the accurate lob on the fast-break and Brandan Wright finishes it off with an easy alley-oop.  The announcing by Dirk Nowitzki on this play makes it so much better though.

6) Vince Carter Flashback

Vince Carter drives right down the middle of the lane and finishes off a beautiful statue-of-liberty dunk to the delight of his teammates.

5) Dirk Nowitzki’s Fade-away Game Winner

With just seconds remaining, Dirk Nowitzki backs down Hedo Turkoglu and performs his signature leg-kick fadeaway to win the game against the Orlando Magic with the pretty shot off the glass.

4) Brandan Wright’s Ridiculous Alley-Oop

This play demonstrates the benefit of having an athletic big man like Brandan Wright.  Wright hustles down the court on the fast-break and Jason Terry feeds him the high lob.  It looks like it could be too high for the big man, but Wright has no problem finishing off the big one-handed slam.

3) Rodrigue Beaubois’s Alley-Oop

Dirk Nowitzki sets a good screen for Rodrigue Beaubois who skies to the rim to finish off the alley-oop pass from Jason Kidd.  A nice play by itself becomes infinitely more impressive when you realize that Beaubois is only (listed at) 6’2″ and got way up to finish that play.

2) Dirk Nowitzki’s Game-Winning Drive

Kevin Garnett is covering Dirk Nowitzki as close as it is possible.  Dirk shrugs it off, drives to the basket (which KG was probably not expecting), and gets the tough lay-up to fall while also drawing the foul.  These are the kind of clutch plays that Dirk is known for as he gets the win for the Mavs over the Celtics.

1) Brandan Wright’s Windmill Alley-Oop

Brandan Wright gets the difficult feed from Jason Terry but cleans it up with a windmill alley-oop in a game against the Portland Trailblazers.
